Staubli Offers Nuclear Decommissioning Connectors

Staubli RBE has introduced 25mm flow-diameter versions of its fluid and gas quick-release connectors. These are suitable for use in nuclear-decommissioning cells for remote handling by manipulators and robots. Staubli RBE connectors are designed for applications in industry where quick and secure connection of any fluid or gas is required.

Connection is fast and easy, with automatic locking; disconnection requires depression of the release-button mechanism. The 25mm flow-diameter coupling, the RBE 25 TL, has been designed for applications where connections are being performed remotely by manipulators, either in confinement cells or process areas.

The robust RBE 25 TL connector is manufactured in grade 316L stainless steel, with springs in grade 302 stainless, and has been specifically designed for remote handling. The release button is raised for easy disconnection and a front flange allows the manipulator's pincer to grasp from behind and provide an effective axial thrust.

The long pre-guiding of the plug into the socket results in an easy connection in any position. The RBE range now comprises six coupling sizes, extending from 3mm diameter right through to 25mm diameter; all of the couplings are designed for remote operation by manipulators. The new 25mm-diameter coupling is suitable for fluid-transfer applications, for example water-filling and waste treatment in nuclear-decommissioning cells.

Staubli product specialists can advise on the precise configuration of the RBE 25 TL to meet any fluid- or gas-specific application.
