Feedthrough System Withstands Up To 450F

ITT Interconnect Solutions has announced a high-temperature electric power feedthrough system for submersible pumps specifically designed for operation with conductor temperatures up to 450F (230C). Such a severe operating environment places significant demands on the individual components and stresses sealing elements of the system. ITT Interconnect addressed these issues by re-engineering the power feedthrough, incorporating a keying system and a new sealing system.

The engagement system between the BIW high-temperature feedthrough and the mating surface connector includes the Metal-Lok keying system, which prevents rotation of the surface connector should it be inadvertently turned or mishandled. In addition, seals between individual parts of the BIW high-temperature feedthrough are protected by a new sealing system, which can withstand extremely high temperatures, preventing the ingress of downhole fluids.

Exterior seals to the hanger and top flange have been fitted with high-temperature O-rings and back-up rings. ITT Interconnect Solutions modified the exterior surface of the connector for improved heat transfer and better cooling properties. Internal insulators are manufactured from high-temperature PEEK. The BIW system has received CSA approval for use in Class I, Division 1 hazardous locations. Electrical ratings are 5,000V AC for up to 140A and pressure rating is 3,000psig.
