Floyd To Exhibit At Metalex 2010

Floyd Automatic Tooling has announced it will be exhibiting cutting and finishing technology at this year's Metalex event. The latest product ranges to be shown will include new tools from Applitec for internal and axial grooving, the Crazymill from Mikron Tool and the new range of high-pressure coolant systems (HPC) developed in conjunction with Pumps and Equipment, for export to Asia. HPC systems can extend tool life, improve chip control and surface finishes, as well as increase speeds and feeds to reduce production cycle times.

The technology has had a surge in uptake, particularly in industry sectors such as aerospace, oil and gas, medical, semiconductor and the automotive sector, where sticky materials such as stainless steels and nimonics are frequently used. The new Floyd offering completes a programme of high-pressure coolant solutions including through coolant holders for sliding-head automatic lathes. Alongside the HPC systems will be the new Crazymill from Mikron Tool.

Suitable for deburring, chamfering and finish machining operations, the Crazymill tooling system is available in three ranges: the Frontchamfer, Backchamfer and the Universal Radius Chamfer, with the option of application-specific specials available upon request. The Crazymill Frontchamfer series of chamfer milling cutters is available from 1mm to 6mm diameter in 1mm increments, making it suitable for machining the smallest of workpieces with the ability to reach almost all angles and corners. The Frontchamfer series has four to six teeth depending upon diameter. This delivers exceptional surface finishes while allowing the end user to increase feed rates by 50 per cent when compared to competitor products, according to Floyd.

The Backchamfer series enables the operator to machine the back or underside of a workpiece without the need for resetting or re-clamping of the component. This chamfer mill allows the machining of holes from as small as 0.4mm diameter with its diameter range including 0.36, 0.46, 0.65, 0.9, 1.4, 1.9, 2.9, 3.7, 4.7 and 5.7mm cutters, a range that is matched by Mikron's Crazydrill programme. The main applications for this milling cutter are found where small machining operations with very high quality and surface finishes are required, such as the medical device, watch industry, automotive and aerospace sectors.

For all-round deburring operations Mikron has developed its Universal Radius Chamfer Tool with a 300deg cutting area. This spherical range of cutters is suitable for front and backside deburring as well as all kinds of internal and external contours and intersections of drilling and milling procedures. With a specific positive cutting geometry the cutter also removes tenacious and ductile burrs and avoids the formation of secondary burrs. The Universal Radius Chamfer Tool also has an extra-long execution that permits machining of hard-to-reach surfaces such as inclined hole exits.

The ball diameter is available in 0.5mm increments from 1mm to 3mm with additional 4mm and 6mm cutters available. All cutters in the Crazymill series can machine a vast selection of materials including gold, silver, copper, aluminium and aluminium alloys including titanium, cast iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, tool steel and hardened steels above 56HRc at cutting speeds of up to 200m/min. Floyd Automatic Tooling will display these products on stand B516 in hall 5 at the Metalex exhibition in Bangkok, Thailand, from 24 to 27 November 2010.
