Tyco Electronics Launches Miniature Trunk Cable

Image
Tyco Electronics has launched a Madison Cable brand Category 5E miniature trunk cable designed for the telecommunication and data communication industries. The product, available in shielded or unshielded configurations, is said to eliminate cable congestion, offering a more flexible, easy-to-route interconnection for use in high data-rate Ethernet and xDSL applications. A central feature of the product includes its reduced diameter for improved routing within, or between, cabinets and frames for central offices or telecommunication closets. Additional benefits of this feature include: reduced weight, improved cabinet/frame airflow and easier handling and routing. The multi-pair cables can be customised for specific applications as they include a variety of pair counts and AWG sizes. Non-halogen and outdoor-rated configurations and customisable shielding are also offered. The product meets industry standards (TIA/EIA 568, ISO 11801), safety ratings (UL/CSA), and ADSL/VDSL2 and GbE (Ca...

Avago Unveils Miniature Surface-Mount LEDs

Avago Technologies has introduced a range of miniature PLCC-2 surface-mount (SMT) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for use in interior automotive and industrial applications. The ASMT-TxBM LED series, which features viewing angles from 110deg to 120deg, is suitable for backlighting automotive instrument cluster panels, puddle lighting, centre consoles, navigation systems and audio systems. The LEDs can also be used to provide backlighting for buttons, switches and ambient light illumination in industrial applications. Avago's ASMT-TxBM LEDs were developed to allow designers to package greater functionality in their automotive or industrial lighting applications while achieving superior performance in terms of light output and power consumption.

Toshiba Electronics Develops Miniature White LEDs

Image
Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) has announced three high-brightness, miniature white LEDs to allow designers to deliver high-efficiency solid-state solutions for a range of lighting applications. With a drive current of 350mA, the TL12W03-D white, TL12W03-L warm white and TL12W03-N neutral white LEDs deliver high typical luminous flux ratings of 90 lumens, 75 lumens and 100 lumens respectively. As a result, they offer high-efficiency, high-reliability alternatives to incandescent, fluorescent and halogen bulb technologies in general lighting designs. The LEDs are supplied in miniature surface-mount packages with dimensions of just 10.5mm x 5mm x 2.1mm. All of the devices will operate at temperatures between -40C and 100C, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor lighting applications. As with other models in Toshiba's LED range, the package technology has been designed to ensure a low thermal resistance. This ensures improved heat dissipation characteristics, which simpli...

Microchip Offers Miniature Microcontroller Package

Image
Microchip has added a new member to its eight- and 14-pin PIC16F61X 8-bit PIC microcontroller (MCU) range, targeting cost-effective general-purpose applications. The PIC12F617 MCU features 3.5Kbyte of self-programmable Flash program memory (with a self-read-write capability) and peripherals such as a 10-bit analogue-to-digital converter (ADC), a comparator, a pulse-width modulator (PWM) and a VREF for closed-loop-control applications - all in a miniature 3 x 3mm DFN package. The Flash programmable memory with a self-read-write capability serves as a low-cost alternative to data EEPROM and is useful when an application requires remote updates or the ability to store system data or look-up tables. The MCU features an 8MHz internal oscillator, an on-chip four-channel 10-bit ADC, a comparator with hysteresis and a PWM with complementary outputs that provide a framework for applications such as light-emitting-diode control, motor control, capacitive touch keys and system monitors. Microchi...
