Aerospace Manufacturer Selects Firbimatic System

Standard Industrial Cleaning Systems has announced that an aerospace manufacturer has selected the Firbimatic cleaning system. Cleanliness is important in most precision manufacturing environments but critical in the aerospace industry. Using solvent spray and vapour for the cleaning process and vacuum drying to remove all traces of liquid solvent, the final 'policeman' guaranteeing compliance with the Solvent Emissions (England and Wales) Regulations 2004 is achieved by recirculating the working chamber air via a regenerable carbon adsorption system. Without vacuum drying there would be the problem of transferring larger amounts of solvent to the carbon system, which results in the removal of the expensive stabilisers. Standard Industrial Cleaning Systems added that Firbimatic technology also guarantees compliance with the European Union Standard Euronorm 12921/4, which requires that the chamber vapour concentration is reduced to

Laser-Sintering Powders Target Aerospace Industry

Image
Two powdered metals for the rapid manufacture of nickel alloy and aluminium alloy components by additive layer manufacturing have been introduced by EOS Electro Optical Systems . The company has specified the materials for use in its EOSINT M 270 laser-sintering systems. EOS nickel alloy IN718 is a nickel-based, heat-resistant super alloy, which corresponds to Inconel 718. It is a precipitation hardening, nickel chromium alloy characterised by good tensile, fatigue, creep and rupture strengths at temperatures up to 700C. It shows high corrosion resistance, is suitable for many high-temperature applications and possesses strong cryogenic properties. The material may be of particular interest to the aerospace industry due to its demanding requirements. EOS said that it has carried out extensive tests in collaboration with several pilot customers. It has developed process parameters that enable good part building and ensure that the relevant industrial standards for this material type can...

Timken Bearings Fulfil Aerospace Requirements

Image
Timken bearings from STAG Group covers the complete spectrum of aerospace requirements, including ball, cylinder, needle, taper, thrust, spindle, spherical and high-precision types. Applications are found in engines, gearboxes, airframe controls and accessories, covering turbines, power plants, helicopters and ancillary power in private, commercial and military aircraft. Timken's expertise in metallurgical and power transmission research, combined with development of next-generation technologies, is complemented by the supply management and customer service support provided by STAG Group. Timken bearings are designed to maximise speed, loading and operational lifetime, and the STAG supply chain ensures that both original equipment manufacture and service/repair schedules are optimised for turnaround times and for pipeline stock.

Deal Accelerates Aerospace/Automotive Standards

LOTAR is working on long-term archiving of digital product data in the automobile and aerospace industry in order to save this data securely for years. Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe - Standardisation (ASD-STAN) and ProSTEP iViP signed a co-operation agreement on 1st July, 2008. The two standardisation organisations aim to release standards faster on an international scale for the automobile and aerospace industry with the support of the Long-Term Archiving and Retrieval (LOTAR) group. LOTAR is working on long-term archiving of digital product data in the automobile and aerospace industry in order to save this data securely for years. "Thus we are reaching a new quality in the area of standardisation ", said Gunter Lessmann, Director of ASD-STAN, which is based in Brussels. "In doing so we make sure that the working results of the LOTAR project can be transferred into standards on a European as well as international level at the same time...
