Enhanced Functionality for G306



Red Lion announces the release of a USB host expansion card for the 6” color HMI, model G306A. With this new card, users can easily add a USB host port to their 6” G3. The USB host port supports bar code scanners, PC keyboards, and USB memory sticks. When used as a keyboard or scanner interface, data entry of large strings is greatly simplified. A barcode scanner virtually eliminates the chance for operator error.

The USB port also supports memory sticks, and provides automatic synchronization of files to and from an installed CompactFlash card. By simply connecting the memory stick to the G3 via the expansion card, files such as preconfigured recipes can be uploaded. The G3 can also be programmed to automatically copy its log files to the memory stick when it detects its presence.

To facilitate access to the USB host port from outside an electrical enclosure, Red Lion offers a series of panel-mount connectors that allow connection to this and other ports without the need to open the panel or cabinet on which the HMI is mounted.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
