Yamazaki Mazak has agreed to become the Official CNC Machining Partner for Birmingham University's Formula Student team, UBRacing, for which it will manufacture component parts. The new partnership was formalised on 1 March at an Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) lecture held at Mazak's European Technology Centre in Worcester. At the lecture, UBRacing described the design and construction of its 2010 car. The main events in UBRacing's Formula Student season take place at the Silverstone circuit in July and at the Hockenheimring in Germany in August. Prior to that there is an opportunity to meet the UBRacing team and to look over the team's racing car at Mazak's Grand Prix open-house event, entitled 'Putting You in Pole Position', to be held in Worcester on 23-26 March.

As an official supplier to Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, Yamazaki Mazak is hosting Grand Prix-themed events in March and April. At both events, visitors will witness the developments that are taking place at Mazak and how they can be of benefit to any manufacturing company - be it large or small. Over 23-26 March there is an opportunity to visit Mazak's European Technology Centre, located at its European headquarters in Worcester for the 'Pole Position' open-house event. Visitors will be able to see 16 machine tools under power in the showroom area. These include the Quick Turn Smart 200 two-axis lathe, offering up to a 75 per cent reduction in programming time; the Slant Turn Nexus 500 for heavy-duty machining of large-diameter shaft and chucking work; and the Megaturn Nexus 900 moving-column vertical turning centre. 2010 will see 30 Mazak machine models launched, in addition to the 21 models introduced in 2009.
