Julia King, vice chancellor at Aston University , will discuss the issues that surround low-carbon transport when she delivers the Icheme sixth John Collier memorial lecture in May. King's lecture, 'Keeping up the momentum after Copenhagen: Driving the transition to a low-carbon world' will draw upon her experiences leading the Treasury's review of low-carbon cars; her work on the world economic forum's global-agenda council on the future of transportation and the committee on climate change; and as chair of the technology strategy board's low-carbon-vehicle innovation platform. The lecture, which takes place at the Royal Society, London, on 5 May, will address the importance of technology, innovation and consumer behaviour, and the role the UK is playing in international developments.

A NEPIC seminar, due to be held on 12 January 2010 at the Middlesbrough Football Club Riverside Stadium, will explore opportunities for improving the management of workplace transport issues. The seminar will be held in partnership with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Safety Groups UK (SGUK) and is sponsored by Nebosh. According to NEPIC, about 50 people are killed every year in accidents involving workplace transport. These types of accidents also cause more than 1,500 injuries and about 3,500 injuries that cause people to be off work for more than three days. Many of these accidents are associated with moving goods either within the workplace or between workplaces. Moving Goods Safely (MGS) is a national project involving the HSE and local authorities working in partnership.
