Bournemouth Holds CAD Refresher Course

Bournemouth University is holding a Refresher of CAD Skills for CDT Users and Teachers Short Course on 3-5 May. The course is full time for the three days and will be held at the university's Talbot Campus at the School of Design, Engineering and Computing. This course will benefit teachers of CDT, product design, and art and design. Practicing designers would also benefit from the being able to transfer their ideas and sketches to CAD. The course costs GBP750.

Open Mind Technologies has developed new intelligent functions for its HyperCAD 2009.1 package. The 3D CAD system includes new display options for improved transparency, increased system performance and better quality control.Project-specific CAD environments can now be created using templates and Hyper Reshape functions allow users to directly process STL data models. HyperCAD 2009.1 is a comprehensive CAD environment with solutions for tool and mould construction. Tools for electrode production or for controlling wire EDM are available as optional extras. Bank Of Algeria Mint Invests In CAD CAM Technology

The Bank of Algeria Mint has invested in equipment and methods from Sescoi to help it respond to the demands of modern banking and to encourage the growth of the country's economy. The tooling department needed a computer-aided-design (CAD)/computer-aided-manufacturing (CAM) system to help it improve its range of capabilities and shorten lead times. The Bank of Algeria purchased WorkNC from Sescoi in 2006. The assistant director at the Bank of Algeria Mint said: 'We have a wide range of CNC milling and turning machines and we needed to modernise in order to achieve just-in-time manufacture, respond to urgent requirements and machine increasingly complex and intricate shapes.' Before the introduction of WorkNC, programming was carried out on the machine tool control, which required high levels of skill from the operator, reduced the available capacity and the productivity of each machine and limited the complexity of the parts being produced.
