Millrock Technology is offering H2O2 as an alternative to steam-sterilising freeze dryers. H2O2 sterilisation is considered a safer, more efficient and environmentally friendly method of sterilisation. This method reduces investment costs as well as the sterilisation cycle time and can be easily validated. H2O2 sterilises equipment under vacuum at room temperature and therefore the freeze dryer does not require an expensive ASME-rated pressure vessel. Only a small quantity of H2O2 is used to decontaminate the freeze dryer and all associated piping on the equipment. The process prepares the chamber, doses H2O2 and then removes and neutralises the H2O2, leaving no residue.

Newport has introduced a series of coloured-glass alternative filters said to offer good durability in any environment. The product line offers 34 longwave-pass thin-film filters in four standard sizes to provide equivalent-to-superior spectral performance when compared with industry standard coloured-glass filters. The alternative filters are said to be ideal for applications where steep transitions from blocking to high transmission are required. Newport's alternative filters do not contain any hazardous substances such as cadmium or lead, making them fully RoHS compliant. The company said that the filters have been developed to address the needs of its OEM customers. Newport added that its Stabilife coating technology produces thin film coatings that are durable even under harsh environmental conditions. The product has been given an 'AA' fire rating by Bodycote Warrington, enabling unrestricted use regardless of proximity to adjacent buildings, and ensuring compliance with Building Regulation Part B.
