Frequency Inverter Features Powerlink Interface

B and R has introduced a frequency inverter with an integrated Powerlink interface and a performance range of 0.37kW to 500kW. The P84 frequency inverter features a selection of on-board digital and analogue I/O channels to control a wide range of technology functions. An integrated Powerlink hub also simplifies bus cabling. An encoder interface can be added to the P84 for applications with strict requirements for speed or torque control. This helps to fit the inverter into the B and R Motion concept and allows movements to be synchronised with the servo drives.

Thanks to the integrated B and R Automation Studio environment, no other software tools are needed. The Motion Wizard assists the user when inserting the P84 into the project and handles important basic settings. This takes much of the guesswork out of commissioning, according to the company. The System Diagnostics Manager makes it possible to perform full diagnostics or to read the status of the machine, even over the internet.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
