Accelerometer Modules Cope in Hostile Environments
Inertial Aerosystems has introduced a range of triaxial analogue accelerometers for applications where space and weight are at a premium, including machine control, robotics and crash testing. Manufactured by Silicon Designs, the Model 2445 range is also suitable for vibration monitoring and analysis, model analysis and flight testing applications. The Model 2445 is a drop-in replacement for the Model 2440 and can measure full-scale acceleration in three orthogonal axes from +/-2g to +/-200g.
By utilising advanced MEMS technology, the operating temperature has been extended from -55C to +125C, making the accelerometers suitable for use in hostile environments. The Model 2445 range is suitable for zero- to medium-frequency instrumentation. The design includes an instrumentation amplifier on each axis, providing high drive capability and low output impedance. On-board voltage regulation and an internal voltage reference eliminate the need for precision power supplies.
The single-ended output scale factor is independent of the supply voltages from +/-12VDC to +/-16VDC. The six 'g' models are relatively insensitive to temperature changes and gradients. The Model 2445 range is assembled using the latest production technology to ensure enhanced reliability in extreme environments with high over-range, shock and vibration tolerance, according to the company. All models come with 1m eight-wire cable and are capable of driving up 15m of additional cable.
